Issue/Introduction

There is a concern with the number of View database extent allocations occurring on application jobs that are processed through CA Deliver.

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : CA View

Resolution

Deliver RMOPARM FREEALL=YES specifies that all sysout datasets created by Deliver are freed at close time.

With the default of FREEALL=NO, the only sysout datasets freed at close time are those created by Deliver for a DD statement in which the FREE=CLOSE parameter is specified.

With a change in parameter setting to FREEALL=YES, the client reported that one of their large application jobs that usually failed with S878 was running as expected.

RMOPARM ARCHn=DIRECT[/...] will cause View database extents to be allocated for use in the direct-write process.

Using RMOPARM ARCHn=c/d/f/m/p will not allocate the View database extents.

Also, reducing the number of View database extent allocations can be accomplished by having a database with fewer and larger extents.
