Issue/Introduction

We are getting the below error while promoting packages and the promotion is successful, but we are getting an error message as "hsmtp failed". Please check and guide us.

I00020133: I00020017: The package My_Package_1 has been promoted to Qual ..
I00020133: I00020015: The process execution completed successfully.  The package count is: 1 ..
I00020133: hpp has been executed successfully..
I00060052: Promote to Qual execution was successful.
I00020133: No sender specified - Exiting ......
E03020179: Execution of 'hsmtp' failed.
S10060051: The PostLinked process(es) failed for parent process: Promote to Qual.

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : CA HARVEST SCM CORE FUNCTIONALITY/PROCESS AUTOMATION

Resolution

In this case, examine the error message more closely.

I00020133: I00060040: New connection with Broker ******** established..
I00020133: I00020017: The package My_Package_1 has been promoted to Qual ..
I00020133: I00020015: The process execution completed successfully.  The package count is: 1 ..
I00020133: hpp has been executed successfully..
I00060052: Promote to Qual execution was successful.
>> So far so good.  Looks like the main process and an hpp command which was either a pre-link or a post-link process also succeeded.

I00020133: No sender specified - Exiting ......
E03020179: Execution of 'hsmtp' failed.
S10060051: The PostLinked process(es) failed for parent process: Promote to Qual.
>> Here is the message that describes the problem.  You’ve got a post-link UDP that sends a notification email (hsmtp is the command line utility that send messages).

E03060019: Process Execute failed.  Process Name: Promote to Qual.
---------- End <Promote to Qual> Process ----------

Here is where you can read more about using the utilities that will send emails:
https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/business-management/harvest-scm/14-0/administrating/set-up-the-mail-utilities.html

Here is where you find more specific information about setting up a notification UDP:
https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/business-management/harvest-scm/14-0/administrating/define-lifecycle-processes.html#concept.dita_9d1af57a6e7508bdfb52bd5bb809bb4a0a451617_DefineaNotifyProcess

HSMTP is also a command line utility that you can run from a command prompt window for testing:
https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/business-management/harvest-scm/14-0/command-reference/get-started-with-ca-harvest-scm-commands/hsmtp-command-smtp-mail-utility.html

Some pointers in this case:
- Take a look at the post link notification process that’s going wrong here.   Does everything look correct?
- The sender for a notification email is usually specified in the hsmtp.arg file.  Is it possible this file was not copied from the old server to the new one?
- You could use the documentation links above to set up a test notification UDP to see if any notification UDP will work.
