How to generate alerts from Differential Analysis strips

Issue/Introduction

We had an important production issue and after checking the differential analysis strips we identified the culprit which is fine, but at this point we are trying to act proactively and create alerts from these strips.

We could set alerts for the average response times, but in the end we would not know if that potential issue is due to a normal maintenance or similar activity.  We know DA is able to learn from it and thus it provides a more accurate information.

So at this point we are wondering if there is a way to set alerts from DA information or even create dashboards that match that information.

Resolution

The strips work from a metric call variance intensity and so it is possible to alert on that metric value. You can create a metric grouping to capture all such values

 

Agent Regex: (.*)\|(.*)\|(.*)

Metric regex:  Variance\|Default\|Differential Analysis Control\|(.*):Average Response Time \(ms\) Variance Intensity

And then set an alert against that grouping with Danger at 30 and Caution 25 and notify by individual metric.
