Protection Engine Java console error 'ClassFormatError - Truncated class file' after updating Java

Issue/Introduction

After updating Java, you receive the following error when attempting to open the Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) local Java console:

ClassFormatError - Truncated class file

Cause

This can happen if SPE was running when the update was performed, causing a difference between what SPE initialized with and what is newly available on the server.

Resolution

Restart SPE's service. This should cause SPE to load the new components and resolve the issue.
