Issue/Introduction

The hostname of Encryption Management Server can be changed by navigating to System / Network in the administration console and entering a new hostname, then clicking the Save button.

After rebooting, however, the console shows this error at the login page:

Your server is currently unlicensed. Messages cannot be encrypted until a license has been entered.

Environment

Symantec Encryption Management Server 10.5, 10.5 MP1 and 10.5 MP2.

Cause

The file /etc/hostname is not updated with the new hostname.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Encryption Management Server release 10.5 MP3 and above so please upgrade and then do the following:

  1. Navigate to System / Network in the administration console.
  2. Optionally enter a new hostname.
  3. Click the Save button.
  4. Navigate to the System / General Settings page and click on the Reboot button to reboot.

In Encryption Management Server releases 10.5, 10.5 MP1 and 10.5 MP2 please do the following:

  1. ssh to the server.
  2. Edit the /etc/hostname file and replace the old hostname with the new one.
  3. Save the changes.
  4. In the administration console, navigate to the System / General Settings page and click on the Reboot button to reboot..
