Endpoint Protection Vietool.exe tool fails to tag files with long file paths

Issue/Introduction

Vietool.exe tool completes, but fails to tag a large number of files in folders with long file paths. 

For example:

ERROR: Unable to read file (3) c:\Windows\servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~18362.1500.1.9\amd64_microsoft-windows-a..g-whatsnew.appxmain_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.18362.1316_none_87686d1db395c460\f\new360videossquare44x44logo.targetsize-16_altform-unplated_contrast-black.png

Cause

An issue was discovered where vietool was unable to process files with a file path longer than 260 characters. 

Resolution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU3 and 14.3 RU2 P1.  For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, see Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.


A new version of the tool (14.3.4629.2000) for 14.3 RU2 has been released and attached to this article.
