RC/Migrator for DB2 for z/OS RC Compare for DB2 for z/OS

Issue/Introduction

In RC/Compare for Db2 for z/OS (RCC), when creating the Ruleset, the attribute 'TEXT' under the View object can be set to 'Y'.
This indicates that View Text should be compared between the Source and Target objects.  Exactly how is the View Text compared.

Resolution

It is important to note that RC/Compare does not modify or manipulate the contents of the View Text:

  •   The View Text will be compared left to right, word to word.
  •   Trailing blanks are ignored.  If special characters are alone, they are treated as a word.
  •   If there are embedded spaces within quotes, the assumption is these are there for a reason.  Therefore "USER    FIELD 2' will not match "USER FIELD 2".

The first one shows 3 spaces between 'USER' and 'FIELD'. The 2nd example has one space. The compare would show there were 'View Text Changes', but will not identify the difference.

  •   In the above example if the words were all separate, the spacing would be ignored and they would match.
