JasperSoft Upgrade from 6.3 to 7.1.1 fails and the installer closes unexpectedly without any error

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade JasperSoft implementation from 6.3 to 7.1.1. The Wizard goes from 13% to 35% then to 100% and then the installation wizard closes without any message. The following error appears in the CABusinessIntelligence_install_<data>.log located in the %TEMP% folder:

Failed to execute: create database jasperserver

BUILD FAILED

Error code is: 19033

Environment

Release : 17.1

Component : JASPERSOFT REPORTS FOR SERVICE MANAGEMENT

Cause

The installer will drop and create a new database. The user has permission to drop the jasperserver database but not to create it.

Resolution

Add permissions to allow the database creation to the user being used by Jaspersoft

1. Log in to SQL Management Studio as SA > Expand Security > Logins

2. Right-Click on the user being used by JasperSoft (example: jasperuser) > Properties > Server Roles > Check sysadmin role

3. Re-try the upgrade.
