Endpoint Encryption installation fails with "An error occurred during the installation of assembly component"

Issue/Introduction

Installing Endpoint Encryption Management Server by running "SEE Server suite x64.msi" results in an error similar to this:

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {E287CB49-81B8-4F79-968D-9D506E9E922A}. HRESULT: 0x80070020.

Environment

• Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.3 and above.
• Windows Server 2012 R2.

Resolution

This workaround should only be used as a last resort.

Compare the size of this file against a another Windows 2012 R2 server that has the same Windows Updates installed and is working correctly:

C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS

If the file size is different, copy the COMPONENTS file from the other server and run "SEE Server suite x64.msi" again.

If the installation succeeds, consider building a new Endpoint Encryption Management Server as soon as possible.
