Issue/Introduction

What exactly is the system down notification event that triggers DOWNSYS = AUTOFREE?

Resolution

The system down notification event to trigger DOWNSYS = AUTOFREE is to reply DOWN to XCF message  IXC102A or IXC402D.

XCF will issue IXC409D message when a system in a sysplex is no response.
IXC409D SIGNAL PATHS BETWEEN sysname1 AND sysname2 ARE LOST. REPLY RETRY OR SYSNAME=SYSNAME OF THE SYSTEM TO BE REMOVED.

After reply to IXC409D, it will issue IXC102A message.
IXC102A XCF IS WAITING FOR SYSTEM sysname DEACTIVATION. REPLY DOWN WHEN MVS ON sysname HAS BEEN SYSTEM RESET 

In case of no reply to IXC409D, it will issue IXC402D message.
IXC402D sysname LAST OPERATIVE AT hh:mm:ss. REPLY DOWN AFTER SYSTEM RESET OR INTERVAL=SSSSS TO SET A REPROMPT TIME
