Issue/Introduction

While starting the Nolio Repository service it returns: Windows could not start the Nolio Release Automation Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1.

Environment

Release : 6.6

Component : CA RELEASE AUTOMATION REPOSITORY

Cause

The service name used here was Nolio Release Automation Server. This service is an old/outdated service used to represent the Release Automation Repository service.

Resolution

Removed the bad/old/stale service. Added a new service to stop/start repo server service which is starting and responding as expected.

Additional Information

First, check to see if the new/updated service name is available. It is named: Release Automation Repository Server.

If the Release Automation Repository Server service is available and is properly starting, stopping, servicing nexus repository requests (url: http://hostname:8080/nexus) then this is the service you should use.

To remove the old/outdated service (Nolio Release Automation Server):
Note: Be careful. Before you do this make sure that this service's Path to executable is pointing to the ReleaseAutomationServerRepository installation folder. If it is not then you may be having a problem with the Nolio Release Automation Server service for the Management and/or Execution Servers and this KB article does not apply.

  • Make a backup of the file: C:\Program Files\CA\ReleaseAutomationServerRepository\bin\RepoService.bat
  • Then, edit the file: C:\Program Files\CA\ReleaseAutomationServerRepository\bin\RepoService.bat
    • Replace: SERVICE_NAME=Tomcat8
      With: SERVICE_NAME=NolioServer20
    • Replace: SERVICE_NAME=RepoService
      With: SERVICE_NAME=NolioServer20
  • Open a command prompt and cd to the directory: C:\Program Files\CA\ReleaseAutomationServerRepository
  • Run the command: nolio_repo_service.cmd remove NolioServer20
  • Restore the backup of the original RepoService.bat file.

The steps above removes the old/outdated service.

If the new/updated service name (Release Automation Repository Server) is not available then it can be added using:

  • Open a command prompt and cd to the directory: C:\Program Files\CA\ReleaseAutomationServerRepository
  • Run the command: nolio_repo_service.cmd install RepoService
