Issue/Introduction

After importing a Microsoft Project (MSP) project to Clarity, it changed the project name and tasks to strange strings. The Project names and task names are getting saved back with the MSP Text3 information stored for the project and tasks.

Environment

Release : 15.8.1

Component : CA PPM SAAS MICROSOFT PROJECT (MSP)

Resolution

Check to make sure that only one copy of a supported version of the MSP Interface installed, then update the project and task names and validate they save back correctly.

Step 1: Uninstall duplicate / old versions of MSP Interface and install the MSP Interface version from Clarity

  1. Uninstall all the CA PPM Microsoft Project Interface, CA PPM Schedule Connect, and CAClarityAddIn components (can be done via Apps & features)
  2. Go to MSP and click on File->Account->About Project
  3. Take Note of the bit level (the first line should normally end with 64-bit or 32-bit)
  4. Close MSP
  5. Go to Clarity and go to Home->Personal->Account Settings->Software Downloads
  6. Click on Download for the Microsoft Project Interface that matches the MSP bit level from Step 3 (For 32 bit MSP, install the x86 bit version listed in Clarity, for 64 bit MSP, install the 64 bit version listed in Clarity)
  7. After the download completes, run through the installation of the Interface (all the defaults can be left
  8. It's recommended to reboot the machine after the installation completes

Step 2: Restore project name/task names from non production (if project is available)

  1. Copy the project name from non production to the production project
  2. Export the project from non production to MSP (Or use a local machine copy of the project if available)
  3. Copy and paste the task names from the non production mpp file to the production mpp file (if the tasks are all identical, all tasks names can be copied and pasted into the broken project for production at one time).
  4. Save the project back to Clarity
