Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to GSS 3.3 RU7, Linux Ghost shows garbled text everywhere in the GUI as seen here:

Steps to duplicate:

  • Run ./ghost in any Linux  flavor with the GUI (i.e. Ubuntu, etc.)
  • Or, in LinPE with installed XIntin and StartX (apt install xinit startx)
  • You then should see that all fonts are corrupted

NOTE: This is reproducible with 64 bit ghost but NOT reproducible with 32bit Ghost running in a 32bit OS

Environment

GSS 3.3 RU7

Resolution

This issue was fixed in the GSS 3.3 RU8 release.

A pointfix for GSS 3.3 RU7 is attached to this article.

Replace Linux ghost binaries. It is not required to update this in LinPE. Place the files under the following two locations:

  • for GSS: C:\Program Files (x86)\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\Ghost
  • for GST: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Ghost
