Issue/Introduction

Antispam rule updates are intermittently delayed and the Messaging Gateway (SMG) messages log shows multiple "RCODE REFUSED" errors when querying one or more of the configured name servers.

Cause

The configured name server is refusing to process the DNS query from SMG

Resolution

The DNS server listed in the error message should be investigated to determine whether it is rate limiting DNS queries from SMG or otherwise experiencing resource issues which prevent it from providing DNS query responses to Messaging Gateway.
