Issue/Introduction

How do you create a copy of the Top Secret Security Files (BDAM and VSAM) without getting the TSS9123A message?

Resolution

There are two ways to avoid getting the TSS9123A error.

1. Copy the security files while the Top Secret started task is down.

2. Copy the backup security files.

• To create a fresh SECFILE backup, issue the command: TSS MODIFY BACKUP
• Then copy the backup security files.

The primary security files should not be copied while Top Secret is active because the security files are constantly being enqueued/dequeued. If the security files are copied while the lock was being held, then the lock will also be copied and will result in the TSS9123A error message.

Best practices recommend the backup security files should be copied, since the only time the backup files are enqueued is when a backup is taken.

The Top Secret backup security files are just copies of the primary security file.
