Issue/Introduction

We are currently looking to upgrade our 10.4.1 DSS Spectrum environment to 10.4.2.2 (DX NetOps 20.2.5).

I have been looking through the release notes, new features and resolved issues and have found a couple of queries I wonder if you could supply more info on?

Firstly in 10.4.2.1 – Scale SNMPv3 Profile Performance

Active SNMPv3 profiles are available in remote SNMPv3 profiles cache. Invalid and incorrect SNMPv3 profiles are removed from remote SNMPv3 profiles cache to improve the performance of SpectroSERVER.

However, in release 10.4.3 it seems this feature is retracted as a resolved issue:-

Symptom: The deletion of empty and invalid v3 profiles was causing the issue.
Resolution: Disabling the deletion of empty and invalid v3 profiles. (DE482657, 32281705, 10.4.3)

Can you elaborate what issue is caused? As I don't want to introduce a new problem with 10.4.2.2 that is only resolved by upgrading to 10.4.3.  I can then see if we might encounter the same problem in environment.

Secondly, the same resolved issue appears in 10.4.2.1 and in 10.4.3:-

Symptom: Occasionally whenever we discover the device interface names are the models are not getting populated.
Resolution: In one of the corner cases, interface names are not getting updated correctly. Added code to fix it. (DE470582,32108738 , 10.4.2.1)

Symptom: Occasionally whenever we discover the device interface names are the models are not getting populated.
Resolution: In one of the corner cases, interface names are not getting updated correctly. Added code to fix it. (DE468489, 32056395, 10.4.3)

Can you elaborate on why this appears twice on 2 different releases?  This issue is something we are keen to get in to resolve issue we currently see at 10.4.1.  However I'm not clear if this will be resolved at 10.4.2.2 or 10.4.3?

Re Scale SNMPv3 Profile Performance

A crash was seen after upgrading to 10.4.2.1. libhpse.dll from 10.4.2 has been applied to the 10.4.2.1 MLS to see if this stabilizes it.  As a result this fix has been changed to give customer s the options of controlling it. verified in 10.4.3 The profiles are deleted only if vnmrc option is configured.

Adding 2 options in .vnmrc file to control deletion of empty v3 and invalid v3 profile deletion.

1st option is to stop deletion of invalid profile when any report other than USM report is received.

2nd option is to stop deletion of invalid and empty profile.

This is also patched on 10.4.2.2

This WI is included in the following patch: 10.04.02.02.D93

Re the second query, I have checked both Defects and the work for different releases was done in 2 defects, the first verified in build 10.4.2.1.65

the second in 10.4.3 and 10.5

so while it is unusual for us to this do this, it is documented correctly.

Additional Information

We would recommend all customer to upgrade to the latest release.
