Issue/Introduction

We need to set up a DSN-Less ODBC connection for MySQL 5.6 databases for data generation through GT Datamaker.

When attempting to connect, we are seeing the following error returned by Datamaker:

*************************************************************************

Cannot connect using supplied values.

Connection:
Profile: <HOSTNAME>
odbc: 999
SQLSTATE = IM002
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

*************************************************

I´m trying to create this connection using DSN-Less ODBC, and MySQL ODBC 5.3 (Unicode or ANSI) driver.

Reading this link:

https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/devops/test-data-management/4-9/installing/supported-data-sources/notes-on-implementation-with-specific-data-sources.html#concept.dita_1dcf72d4deca5c21cf3a2704f77ddf29624ee21f_mysqlmysql56

I found that I need to download the driver from MySQL for the TDM Portal, but it doesn't mention anything about Datamaker.

Do I need to install the drivers on Datamaker too?

Cause

The 'mysql_connector_java_5.1.32_bin.jar' driver we ship in Program Files (x86)\Grid-Tools\GTDatamaker\lib is for the GT Subset utility, which is written for Java.

Environment

Release : 4.9

Component : GT Datamaker

Resolution

You will need to install the ODBC driver on the Datamaker server and verify access through the ODBC Manager to confirm it is installed properly.

At the time this KB was written, you can download the MySQL ODBC drivers from https://downloads.mysql.com/archives/c-odbc/

Since GT Datamaker is a 32-bit application, you will need to download the 32-bit ODBC driver. Because you are connecting to a MySQL 5.6 Database, I recommend trying the 5.3.13 32-bit ODBC driver, which is identified as 'Windows (x86, 32-bit), MSI Installer' on the MySQL download site.
