FatalInstallException An error occurred while copying XCOM for Windows patch install

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading XCOM Windows 11.6 to SP03 successful today, tried apply patch SO13670, but failed with   

Custom Action:            com.ca.xcom.installer.common.SETERROR
                          Status: FATAL ERROR
                          Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR -     class com.ca.xcom.installer.common.SETERROR FatalInstallException: An error occured while copying one or more of the CA XCOM Data Transport system files.

INSTALLATION WAS CANCELLED BY USER DURING INSTALLATION

 

Environment

Release : 11.6

Component : CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows

Cause

Even though the xcomd service was stopped which should normally also stop the listener, it apparently was still running. That might be due to some previous transfer problem and some known abnormal listener behaviors that should be resolved by installing the latest maintenance patch.

Resolution

1. When applying maintenance, always apply the latest maintenance, because it is cumulative and you will have the latest fixes.
2. Disable the xcomd service by setting it to manual
3. Restart the server
4. Install the patch.

  Now the patch was successfully installed.
