Issue/Introduction

When a user navigates in the ITMS console to Settings > Notification Server > IT Analytics Settings > Reports > Report Builder and clicks on the Launch Report Builder button, Report Builder does not launch. Instead, the user is presented with a view of the Report Server virtual directory.

Environment

Release: 8.5

Component: Reports

Cause

This is a known issue with IT Analytics for SMP affecting CMS/ITMS installations running SQL Server 2016 or SQL Server 2019.

Resolution

As a workaround, to access Report Builder, follow this procedure:

  1. On the server hosting SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), open the application Reporting Services Configuration Manager
  2. Connect to the SSRS server and instance used by IT Analytics (ITA)
  3. Select the Web Service URL page and make a note of the Virtual Directory name and the Web Service URL
  4. Select the Web Portal URL page and copy the URL listed
  5. On the ITMS server, open a browser and navigate to the URL copied in step 4
  6. Click on the +New menu and select Paginated Report
  7. When prompted to open Report Builder, select Open
  8. In Report Builder, look in the lower left-hand corner of the window and confirm the current report server points to the Web Service URL Virtual Directory noted in step 3.
  9. If No current report server is specified, click on the Connect link, enter the Web Service URL from step 3, and click Connect

If no other services or applications are configured to use SSRS, the following procedure will configure SSRS to open with a connection to the ITA SSRS instance by default:

  1. In Report Builder, click on the File menu and select Options
  2. Enter the Web Service URL from step 3 of the previous procedure in the field Use this report server or Sharepoint site by default:
  3. Click the OK button
