AWI does not show anything in Connections, just a grey box

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading or installing AWI, the AWI login page shows a greyed out Connection dropdown

 

The awi log shows something like:

Environment

Release : 12.3 and v21

Component : AUTOMATION ENGINE

Cause

This is caused by a corrupt or missing uc4config.xml file

Resolution

To resolve this:

Navigate to the webapps/awi/config folder on the web server
Delete the uc4config.xml file
Copy the uc4config.xml.sample file to uc4config.xml
Update the new file to have the connections
Reload the AWI page and the connection dropdown should now have values
