Issue/Introduction

When attempting to start apache tomcat from windows services, receive a popup that shows:

Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

Checking the catalina log, see the error:

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; systemId: file:/[tomcat installation directory]/conf/server.xml; lineNumber: 28; columnNumber: 66; Error and line [28] column [66]: [org.apache.catalina.core.JasperListener]

This can also have no error from the service manager, but he same error in the catalina log:

Cause

This is caused by a tomcat error when a no longer used tomcat setting is set in the server.xml file

Environment

Release : 12.3

Component : AUTOMATION ENGINE

Resolution

check in server.xml on the line referenced in the error (in this case line 28).  JasperListener is no long used in tomcat 9, so this should be commented out using <!-- at the beginning of the line and --> at the end

Please note: This error is specific to tomcat and is not caused by the Automic product.  If continued troubleshooting is needed, a system admin must be contacted to troubleshoot the issue with Apache Tomcat.
