Protection Engine for Cloud Services Protection Engine for NAS

Issue/Introduction

Symantec Protection Engine is part of Symantec Protection Engine for Network Attached Storage (SPE-NAS) where it provides scalable, high-performance threat detection services to protect valuable data stored on network attached storage (NAS) devices and in Symantec Protection Engine for Cloud Services (SPE-CS) that enables this flexible and feature-rich client/server application to incorporate malware and threat detection technologies into almost any application.

The Web URL categorization capability in the SPE family of products is switching to a new technology and customers may notice some changes.  Customers using the URL Scanning feature should plan to upgrade to the latest product versions listed below before August 30, 2021 to ensure continuity of the feature.

  • Protection Engine for Network Attached Storage (SPE-NAS) 8.2.1 and later
  • Protection Engine for Cloud Services (SPE-CS) 8.2.1 and later

Customers may refer to “Upgrading to Symantec Protection Engine 8.2” on the following web page for details on upgrading from older versions to the latest version of the product.

Any product customizations (categorization and reputation settings) that customers made to SPE products would need to be recreated in the customer’s SPE-NAS 8.2.1 or SPE-CS 8.2.1 product. Customers may reach out to Broadcom Support for assistance after upgrading to the latest versions of the software.

Resolution

A Technical Whitepaper has been created (Attached) to guide you through the various changes made to the product’s configuration files, user interface and general operation of the software.
