Issue/Introduction

The following error is returned when attempting to login to the IT Analytics (ITA) console using Windows Authentication:

Exception: The target principal name is incorrect. Cannot generate SSPI context.

Cause

This error is typically caused by a locked account, a datetime mismatch between server and client (e.g., the client's timezone-adjusted date or time is in the future relative to the server), or by a change in the trust relationship between the server and the domain.

Resolution

Ensure the ITA service account isn't locked-out in Active Directory and verify the date and time on the client, SQL Server, and IIS server are all the same. For domain trust issues, contact your domain administrator for assistance.
