Unable to discover device using a new SNMPv3 SNMP Profile in DX NetOps Performance Management

Issue/Introduction

We are unable to discover devices using SNMPv3 in DX NetOps Performance Management.

We have configured the correct SNMPv3 based SNMP Profile.

It is not configured as a SET profile type, only as a GET profile.

The same credentials set in the SNMP Profile work fine when tested using the sapwalk2 and snmpwalk commands. This works on the Data Collector trying to discover these devices, and for other hosts.

The devices are pingable from the Data Collector involved.

The devices do not have duplicated SNMPv3 engine ID values.

Cause

The User Name configured in the SNMP Profile has an errant space at the end of the user name.

Environment

All supported DX NetOps Performance Management releases

Resolution

Discovery debug and packet captures show the device returning a response that indicates a bad user name is in use.

When more closely examining the User Name entered in the SNMP Profile it was discovered that it had an errant extra space at the end of the user name.

Instead of 'Performance' it was 'Performance '. That extra space resulted in the incorrect user name attempted for discovery.

Once fixed the problem is resolved.
