Issue/Introduction

You are considering an upgrade from SGOS 6.x to SGOS 7.2.x or SGOS 7.3.x and want to know whether the Symantec Web Filter (formerly known as Blue Coat Web Filter, BCWF) will still be supported or if you will have to migrate instead to the Intelligence Service (IS) categorization service.

Environment

You are using Symantec Web Filter (BCWF) database on your Edge SWG (formerly ProxySG) or Advanced Secure Gateway (ASG).

Resolution

  • If you are upgrading to SGOS 7.2.x or SGOS 7.3.x and were using WebFilter as the data source previously, there will be no change to your existing content filtering functionality.
  • If you are upgrading to SGOS 7.2 or SGOS 7.3 and were using Intelligence Services as the data source previously, you will not have the option to use the Symantec Web Filter (BCWF) as a data source after you upgrade to SGOS 7.2.x or SGOS 7.3.x.
  • If you are running a new installation of SGOS 7.2 or SGOS 7.3, you will only have the option to purchase Intelligence Services for content filtering.

The following option to set the data source in the Management Console and the CLI command has been removed:

#(config application-classification) data-source {web-filter | intelligenceservices}

Note: The appliance can restore a configuration archive that includes WebFilter as a data source, but will present a deprecation warning.
