1. What is M6-WMQ?
   
   M6-WMQ is designed to monitor, automate and visualize WebSphere MQ networks. It enables users to identify and resolve problems associated with managing and monitoring WebSphere MQ. WebSphere MQ itself is an unsupervised communications backbone used for critical applications on various platforms. When administrators deploy a WebSphere MQ network, usually they need a separate management tool that will:
   
   
   • Ensure uninterrupted operation of each WebSphere MQ component
   • Discover and automatically correct WebSphere MQ system failures
   • Prevent performance bottlenecks and conflicts that might affect business applications.
     
     To meet the management needs of WebSphere MQ, AutoPilot-WMQ does the following:
   • Collects management data, statistics and events (including performance and fault events) through intelligent agents.
   • Forwards management information to a centralized management presentation platform.
   • Automatically takes corrective actions when WebSphere MQ problems are identified.
   • M6-WMQ is based on combination of N-tier and network architecture. It is focused on high volume, real-time WebSphere MQ monitoring.
2. M6-WMQ Components
   
   M6-WMQ consist of the following major components:
   
   
   • Workgroup Server: is a server program that collects information about a group of registered WebSphere MQ nodes and stores it in its proprietary database (could be replaced by commercial SQL database). The Workgroup Server collects information via local agents or remotely, without any agents. It can organize up to 255 WMQ nodes. If WebSphere MQ network consist of more than 255 nodes it has to be organized in to several workgroups.
   • M6-WMQ Agent: is an intelligent lightweight program that runs on a WebSphere MQ node. It executes management commands on one or more queue managers within a local node. Every managed WebSphere MQ node must have its own M6-WMQ Agent unless agent-less monitoring preferred. It is possible to run multiple M6-WMQ agents on the single WMQ node. The M6-WMQ Publish Subscriber server is an agent that distributes WebSphere MQ events among subscribers. It is installed once on WebSphere MQ node and once activated monitors events from all queue managers on this node.
   • M6-WMQ Publish Subscriber: is a server program that monitors dead letter queue and generates event if message arrived on the dead letter queue.
   • M6-WMQ Message Server: is a server program that provides message management of WebSphere MQ queue managers. It is also installed once per WMQ node, but could be activated per queue manager. It allows copying, moving, deleting, finding, and editing of individual or groups of messages.
   • M6-WMQ Explorer: is a front-end application to administer WebSphere MQ networks. It allows performing various administration functions (create, delete, modify) of WebSphere MQ objects.
   • M6-WMQ Message Explorer: is a front-end application to manage WebSphere MQ messages (create/delete/modify, copy, move, find).
3. M6-WMQ Database Support
   
   M6-WMQ provides support for the following SQL database servers (via ODBC):
   
   
   • MySQL
   • Microsoft SQL Server
   • Oracle
   • IBM DB2
   Support for the Nastel proprietary database is no longer supported.
