Issue/Introduction

Duplicated Unnamed RTM tests - deleted them but they keep showing up:

They are also visible using the Locater->SPM->All Test Hosts search results.

  • Filter using 'VNM'.
  • Add the Test Host Name and Test Host State columns to the search results.
  • Any with an empty Test Host Name and/or a Test Host State = Maintenance will cause these errors

The following messages were also found in the $SPECROOT/SS/VNM.OUT file and seen during SpectroSERVER start up in the CLI or in the Spectrum Control Panel. There may be one or many errors written, with different model handles. There is no correlation between number of bad models present in OneClick and the number of errors seen during SpectroSERVER start up.

Mar 18 14:22:45 ERROR TRACE at CsIHCrMdlEv.cc(356): Model Name is not set after re-evaluation for mh:0x10466b

Environment

All supported DX NetOps Spectrum releases

Cause

TBD

Resolution

To resolve the problem follow these steps.

  1. Open the OneClick client or WebApp.
  2. Go to the Locater search tab.
    1. Open the SPM folder.
    2. Select and run the "All Test Hosts" search.
    3. Filter the results using 'VNM'.
    4. Add the "Test Host Name" and "Test Host State" columns to the search results.
    5. Any with an empty Test Host Name and/or a Test Host State = Maintenance requires deletion.
  3. Select all search result entries that have an empty Test Host Name and/or a Test Host State = Maintenance
    1. This should leave one model per Landscape that has a Test Host Name and Test Host State = Active.
  4. Right click on the selected bad models to be deleted. Select the Utilities->Attribute Editor option.
  5. Select the add link next to the User Defined folder.
  6. Find and add the Attribute named Test_App_MH with Attribute ID 0x456001d. It should now appear on the right-hand side.
  7. Uncheck the No Change checkbox, Add the value 0x0 in the text field, select the OK button.
  8. In the Attribute Edit Results pop up select the Close button.
  9. Back in the Locater Search results, select the bad models and right click them. Choose the Delete option.
  10. In the Confirm Delete pop up select Yes to confirm the deletion.
  11. Repeat the Locater search to confirm only one entry remains per landscape, each with a Test Host Name value and a Test Host State of Active.
  12. Stop and start the SpectroSERVER to confirm errors no longer appear during Activation.

Additional Information

In some cases they still return even after setting test_app_mh to 0x0 and deleting them, you may delete the RTTMON apps.

Do a Locator Search for Application > Name and search for RTTMON.

Filter the results on Device Name - any that show with a "blank" or empty Device Name is a duplicate/bad model. Delete these and restart SS.

There is still a case where a single RTM Test_Host will be created everytime the SpectroSERVER is stopped and restarted.

This will be fixed with DE589927 which is being targeted for Spectrum 23.3.8 release.

This single test host can be safely ignored and will not cause any problems or loss of monitoring.
