ERROR 1603 during Symantec Endpoint Protection or Symantec Endpoint Security client installation

Issue/Introduction

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) or Symantec Endpoint Security (SES) client installation fails with the error code 1603. Running Cleanwipe will still not allow the installation to go through. 

Environment

Release :    SEP 14.3 and/or SES 14.3 

Component : Installation

OS: Windows server and workstation 

Cause

Data Center Security (DCS) is also installed, and the DCS policy is interfering with the SEP install. 

Resolution

Data Center Security (DCS) was interfering. After disabling the DCS policy, Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) installs OK.

Results from SEP_Inst.log or the MSI log, found in the %temp% directory:

 

RunSymEFAQuery: exitCode converted from HRESULT: 5
RunSymEFAQuery: The SymEFA installer query had an unexpected exit code. The current installation will fail and rollback!
