Endpoint Encryption

When an Endpoint Encryption client connects to Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server (SEEMS) it connects to the following URL where see.example.com is the SEEMS FQDN:

For troubleshooting purposes, you can connect to this URL using a web browser. You will need to authenticate with the IIS client account credentials specified in SEEMS Configuration Manager.

When you connect and authenticate using a browser you see the following GECommunicationWS page:

Clicking on any of the items in the list will display sample SOAP 1.1 requests and responses.

Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.3 and above.

If you do not wish to display the GECommunicationWS page you can disable it. Clients will still be able to check-in.

To disable the page, please do the following:

  1. On the Endpoint Encryption Management Server, open Internet Information Server.
  2. Navigate to the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Services site.
  3. Under Actions on the right hand side of the window, click on Explore. File Explorer will open the CommunicationWS folder. By default, the full path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server\CommunicationWS".
  4. Copy the web.config file to another folder. For example, copy it to the Documents folder.
  5. Navigate to the folder containing the copy of the web.config file and make another copy of it for backup purposes.
  6. Edit the copy of the web.config file using Notepad or another text editor and replace this:
        <httpRuntime enableVersionHeader="false" />

    with this:
        <httpRuntime enableVersionHeader="false" />
            <remove name="Documentation"/>
  7. Save the modified web.config file and copy it to the CommunicationWS folder, overwriting the original. You will need local administrator permissions. Note that there is no need to restart any services.

Following this change, when you connect and authenticate using a browser you see Server Error in '/' Application when trying to display the GECommunicationWS page:
