Issue/Introduction

We are on the middle of an installation of Siteminder Agent for SP, while running the SiteMinder SharePoint Connection Wizard, we are getting an error shown in the installation log file, please see below...

Configuring connection Details

Creating a SharePoint connection <long connection name> is failed.

Creation of new object for the class : AffiliateCollection failed.

  SiteMinder Administration Server Error: Could not save object in policy store. (Error 20)

 

Custom Action:            com.netegrity.sharepoint.SavePartnership

                          Status: FATAL ERROR

Cause

With an AD User Directory as a Policy Store, there is a character limit (64) for the Name Attribute for objects created.

The Agent for SharePoint Connection Wizard is used to create a Legacy Federation Resource Partnership in the Policy Store based on the name of the SharePoint Connection being created. The name of the SharePoint connection to be created is appended to the name of the backing objects being created.

If the name specified is too long, then then the resultant name of the Backing objects can exceed the limit of the Policy Store type.

Resolution

To enable this SharePoint Connection to be created in the AD Policy Store, the name of the SharePoint Connections must be kept short enough to allow the backing objects to be created in the Policy Store with this name appended to the Objectname.
