Customers frequently ask whether routine security updates to the operating system administrator password affect Identity Manager functionality. This article clarifies the scope of this security practice regarding the Identity Manager platform.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Cause

Identity Manager services operate independently of the operating system's local administrator account password.

Resolution

1. Changing the operating system's local administrator password does not impact Identity Manager services, provided those services are not running under that specific account.
2. Important: If Identity Manager services are configured to run under a specific Service Account, changing the password of that Service Account will impact the service and requires an update to the service credentials.
