Issue/Introduction

Question:

I need to know the SAP Business Objects (BO) XI version and service pack level the corresponds to the level of CA Business Intelligence (CABI) that is installed in my CA Service Desk Manager 12.6 environment on Windows.  How can I find that information?

Answer:

To confirm the version, service pack, and fix pack of the Business Objects (BO XI) that is installed in your environment, you could check the version of the properties file, biek.properties, and the version of the executable file, busobj.exe. To do that, you need to be able to access the server on which CABI is installed.

On Windows, the default location for biek.properties is: C:\Program Files\CA\SC\Common Reporting.

Open biek.properties and check the value of the "Version" field. Depending on the Service Desk Manager version, there may also be a value in the "Patches" and "Patches<x>" field, where x is a number.

For example, from a Service Desk Manager 12.6 CA SDM installation, you may find this entry in the biek.properties file under the "[BOXI]" section:

Version=BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 3 SP3

Additionally, you could check the version of the busobj.exe file by following these steps:

  1. Open the Windows File Manager.
  2. Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting3\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86".
    The path is different, but similar, for other versions of Service Desk Manager.
  3. Scroll down to find the file named "busobj.exe".
  4. Right click on the file and select "Properties" from the pull-down.

Click on the "Details" tab. Note the value of the "Product version" property.   There may be minor differences in the tab name and property name on different versions of Windows.

The version may need to be mapped (see the Additional Information section below).  For example, 12.5.0.1190 maps to BO XI 3.1 SP5.

Additional Information:

For another method, and for a list of some mappings of BOXI and CABI and file versions, please review technical document TEC567554.
