Issue/Introduction

When running a backward recovery using the DBUTLTY program of CA Datacom, the recovery failed with a U0004 abend and these messages:

DB18001C - INTERNAL DBRCVPR PROGRAM ERROR - D
DB13152E - RECOVERY ROLLBACK TSN-0000D2B9 - RXX EXCLUDES FIRST TSN LOG RECORD
DB13152E - RECOVERY ROLLBACK TSN-0000D2B9 - RXX EXCLUDES LAST TSN LOG RECORD

Cause

When running either a forward or backward recovery, it is necessary that the RXX files be concatenated in order from oldest to most recent.

This error often results from RXX concatenated files in the wrong sequence.

Resolution

The DB18001C Program Error D indicates a problem reading the files, and the other DB13152E messages indicate that the whole set of records for the specified TSN was not found as it was being read. This could be the result of reading the records in the wrong order. The "LAST TSN LOG RECORD" missing could be the result of records out of order or of not running a SPILL following the problem program, leaving some records still on the LXX.

To address this error:

  1. Be sure that all transactions related to the TSN have been spilled to an RXX, and
  2. Enter the RXX concatenation in the JCL with the oldest first, and then in order up to the last file as the most current.

Then try to run the recovery job again.
