Issue/Introduction

Do I need to change my backup script/configuration after adding nodes to Vertica in DX Netops Performance Management?

Environment

Release : 20.2

Component : CA Performance Center

Resolution

Yes, backups can only be restored to the same configuration they were taken from, so the number of nodes, etc. must be the same.

That is noted here:

https://www.vertica.com/docs/9.1.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/AdministratorsGuide/BackupRestore/WhenToBackUpTheDatabase.htm?TocPath=Administrator's%2520Guide%7CBacking%2520Up%2520and%2520Restoring%2520the%2520Database%7C_____5

"When you restore a full database backup, you must restore to a cluster that is identical to the one on which you created the backup."

So you'd need to configure a new backup after the expansion, that is configured in its .ini file to back up all nodes.

You'd need to do this into a new empty backup location.

You still configure the backup from one node and run the vbr command from one node, but all the nodes are backed up per the config file.
