XCOM Data Transport XCOM Data Transport - Windows XCOM - SUPPORT

Issue/Introduction

A large batch of data is being processed. The caxcgsrv.exe xcom listener process is taking high CPU impacting production SLA.

Environment

  • XCOMâ„¢ Data Transport® for Windows
  • MS Windows Server

Cause

Hardware needed to be upgraded.

Resolution

After increasing the number of CPUs on the server in question from 2 to 8 CPUs this hardware change made the server CPU usage drop from 100% to around 15%. With this change, the CPU bottleneck has been removed.

A 70% increase in activity most likely caused the high CPU.

Additional Information

After reviewing the xcom.log we determined the increase of activity that caused the increase of CPU.

The client was measuring the CPU usage using the Windows Task Manager, but we provided more details to assist with that measurement of CPU:

  1. Click the Details tab
  2. Right click on the Status column and click on Select Columns
  3. Check the CPU Time option
  4. This will add the CPU Time column to the view
  5. Check the CPU Time of System Idle Process - this will tell you how long the server has been running
  6. Check the caxcgsvr.exe process CPU Time and that will tell you how much CPU it has used for the time the server has been up
