Issue/Introduction

During the import of roles and tasks within an Identity Manager environment, administrators may encounter an "Unexpected null value" error. This failure often stems from a missing or corrupted Provisioning Role eTID (External Template ID) within the XML import file, which prevents the environment from properly processing the import request.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Cause

The import source file or the current environment contains Provisioning Roles with missing or null eTID values. This data inconsistency prevents Identity Manager from mapping the roles to the provisioning directory correctly.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Management Console and navigate to Home > Environments > [Your Environment Name].
  2. Enable the Enable Verbose Log Output (Slows deployment) option and click Save.
  3. Re-run the Roles and Tasks import process.
  4. Navigate to the Identity Manager server log directory and examine the verbose output to identify the specific Provisioning Role associated with the "null value" exception.
  5. Open the import XML file in a text editor and locate the problematic role entry. Ensure the eTID attribute is populated with a valid unique identifier.
  6. If the eTID is missing, verify the role definition in the source system and re-export the roles.
  7. Disable Verbose Log Output after the import is successful to restore normal performance.
