Issue/Introduction

The following error is logged in Symantec Mail Gateway (SMG)

2020-11-26T09:26:49+01:00 (WARNING:18123.2560534272): [46061] Unable to scan and/or modify the message in action 'Reconstruct'.
2020-11-26T09:26:49+01:00 (ERROR:18123.2560534272): [42121] SG Decomposer: Internal error (80800204).
2020 Nov 26 09:26:44 CET (err) ecelerity: [18123] Deferring message: failed to filter message
2020 Nov 26 09:26:44 CET (err) ecelerity: [18123] Failed to get Version. Error: a489

Environment

Release : 10.7.3

Component : Symantec Mail Gateway (SMG)

Cause

The errors are caused by corrupted AV rules.

Resolution

Make a backup of the control center and scanner(s).

After that login via the Admin CLI via SSH and run the following command line.

delete avrules

This will delete the antivirus rules.

Go to the Control Center >Malware>Email Scan Settings>LiveUpdate>LiveUpdate Now, to get current AV rules again.
