Issue/Introduction

When double-clicking and/or simply trying to open the sqlserver GUI in IM, we get a popup error:

The instruction at 0x00000000100156D4 referenced memory at 0x000000000000013A8. The memory could not be written.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

Environment

Release : 9.2.0

Component : UIM - SQLSERVER

or

Component : UIM - ORACLE

Cause

- corrupt conf_<probe_name>.exe  executable

- This error could be generated when trying to open the GUI for other probes as well, e.g., oracle probe.

Resolution

1. Search for the conf_sqlserver*.exe files and delete them all.

2. Redeploy the probe (first save the sqlserver_monitor.cfg file for safekeeping).

3. Open the GUI again to see if it reoccurs.

4. Then reboot the server if it does reoccur, since this is an uncommon GUI popup error.

Additional Information

Search 'from the top down' on the drive where the software is installed. Search for...

conf_*

or

conf_<probe_name>.exe

or

conf_*.exe

- Also, the probe you're running should be the latest GA version or higher.

- After the full cleanup of the files, you MUST reboot the machine.

- If the issue is not resolved after rebooting the server, please carefully recheck to make sure there are absolutely no GUI conf_* exe files because that is normally the underlying root cause (corrupt GUI configurator executables).
