Resolution

The following is on View compression:

CA-View has a proprietary process whereas reports in the database are always kept compressed.

The degree of compression is DATA DEPENDENT (the more similar the data, the higher the compression) in that both horizontal and vertical data compression is performed.

An estimate for compression is that a report is kept at about 60% of its original size.

Data on tape is compressed in the same manner as on the database.

These SARINIT parameters also affect compression:

. ACIFCOMP=[YES|]NO
. . This parameter specifies whether to use a compression algorithm for ACIF reports
and resources using MVS compression services to improve compression and minimize CPU usage.
. . ACIFCOMP=YES - Not default
. . Activates the compression algorithm for any new ACIF reports processed by the FSS/ACIF collector.

. SARINIT TAPEOPT
. . TAPEOPT=3480[|EAST],HARD[|NOHARD],[SOFT|]NOSOFT
. . HARD - Default - Specifies that the hardware compaction feature is to be used.
. . SOFT - Not default - Specifies that the software compression is to be used.
