XCOMM0096E ALLOCATE REQUEST ENDED DUE TO VTAM ERROR

Issue/Introduction

We are receiving message "XCOMM0096E ALLOCATE REQUEST ENDED DUE TO VTAM ERRORS" in a transfer between production & dev lpars

it seems it complains about the allocation per the error message, however the datasets looks already allocated and with enough space.

Component : CA XCOM Data Transport for z/OS

Resolution

Message "XCOMM0096E ALLOCATE REQUEST ENDED DUE TO VTAM ERRORS" has nothing to do with the datasets involved in the transfer. After reviewing the log provided we see that the following messages were the cause of the problem:

     XCOMM0714E VTAM COMMAND TIMEOUT, ABORTING SESSION WITH PLU=

     XCOMM0122E UNRECOVERABLE ERROR CREATING SESSSION

The messages are due to VTAM(network)  or system problems. You would need to review the VTAM and/or System logs to determine what was happening at the time of the problem since XCOM happens to be a victim in this case.
