Issue/Introduction

The Spectrum Archive Manager starts as the wrong user on Windows.

For example, I log into the system as the Windows "Spectrum" user and the Archive Manager fails to start stating user "spectrum" in the $SPECROOT/SS/DDM/ARCHMGR.OUT file.

Cause

Windows OS users are not case sensitive. To Windows, user "Spectrum" and user "spectrum" are the same.

Spectrum users are case sensitive. Spectrum user "Spectrum" is not the same as Spectrum user "spectrum".

If the user in Windows is "Spectrum", the user can log into the Windows system as "spectrum". When the Archive Manager is started, it uses the username as it was typed in when logging into the Windows system.

Environment

Release : Any

Component : Spectrum Archive Manager

Resolution

When you install Spectrum, it asks you for the username of the user that will own the Spectrum installation. This username is stored in two different files:

In the $SPECROOT/.installrc file under the OWNER parameter.

In the $SPECROOT/SS/.vnmrc file under the initial_user_model_name parameter.

The value should be the same for both.

Whatever value is stored for the initial_user_model_name parameter in the $SPECROOT/SS/.vnmrc file is the first user model created in the Spectrum database.

So, log into the Windows system using the username as it is seen in the $SPECROOT/SS/.vnmrc file.
