Whole disk encryption on Site Servers

Issue/Introduction

The customer has been asked to put whole disk encryption on their physical Package/Site Servers.

Is this recommended or is there any reasons why we should not be doing this?  And what about virtual servers?

Resolution

We do not encrypt our package files, we just calculate the hash for every package. Of course every file operation is slower in virtual environment or when the whole drive is encrypted but Site Server should have no problem running on such machines.
