Issue/Introduction

This article will discuss the recommended actions to take when moving away from a physical appliance or the virtual appliance form factor to the newer container form factor.

Environment

This article applies to all supported versions of the API Gateway.

Resolution

There are two migration situations we acknowledge currently:

• Moving from an existing OVA (virtual appliance) to the container form factor:
  1. Please follow the instructions here: Connect the Container Gateway to an Existing MySQL Database
• Migrating the OVA (virtual appliance) database to the cloud (i.e. Cloud SQL):
  1. Backup the Gateway
  2. Take the backup output file and export it to the cloud DB per cloud vendor instructions

Note: All other custom configurations outside of the database must be migrated manually to the new container Gateway database. We do not recommend the use of GMU, Policy Plugin, or derived image solutions as part of the form factor migration process.
