Issue/Introduction

Control Compliance Suite (CCS)

When registering a CCS agent with a 15 digit IPv4 address (for example - aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd) in the 'Preferred IP' field in the Agent Configuration Utility, the registration fails.

Environment

Release : 11.5.x, 12.0 and 12.0.1

Component :Agent Configuration Utility on CCS agents.

Cause

When using AgentConfiguration.exe to register an agent, if you use a 15 digit preferred IP address (for example - aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd), the registration fails because the IP is truncated.

In the \Program Files (x86)\Symantec\ Enterprise Security Manager\ESM\system\<hostname>\SymantecESMAgentReg.log file, you will have an error that the IP was not valid:

[07988] register:  The address passed to '-I' must be a valid local IPv4 address.

.

Resolution

The issue is resolved in CCS 12.5.  The 'Preferred IP' field is widened to 15 digits to avoid truncation of the IP.

Uninstall the older agent, and reinstall the agent that is CCS 12.5 or newer to resolve this issue.
