DE (dSeries) Server failed to start after upgrade and roll back to previous release

Issue/Introduction

We are not able to bring up the Application after in-place upgrade to 12.2 and roll back to the previous release, getting java.lang.NullPointerException error.  

Application DE server version : 12.0.0
Database version : Oracle 11g 


Cause

The DE Server logs and stdout.txt file show the server failed to start with error;

java.lang.NullPointerException
 at com.cybermation.espresso.config.ConfigUtilities.getAllPropertiesForDisplay(ConfigUtilities.java:230)
 at com.cybermation.espresso.bootstrap.ServerMain.logProperties(ServerMain.java:1945)
 at com.cybermation.espresso.bootstrap.ServerMain.main(ServerMain.java:390)

The ESP_CONFIG_PROPERTY table is missing 'license.check.interval' server property. The property is removed from the server configuration property in DE 12.2,

Resolution

As part of the in-place upgrade roll back procedure, the database backed up before the upgrade should be restored before starting the DE Server.

Make sure the DBA restore the right database backed up before the DE Server in-place upgrade.
