Issue/Introduction
What is the behavior when the license expires for Symantec Protection Engine (SPE)?
Environment
SPE 8.2.x or SPE 9.x
Resolution
Begin the renewal process for your SPE license as there is no grace period. When the license expires, the following limitations occur:
URL filtering rulesets stop downloading.
AntiVirus definitions stop downloading.
AntiVirus scanning and content filtering stop working. This means that, when a scan request is submitted, the scanning engine will respond with the following: Error: Symantec Protection Engine has no valid license.
You will need to renew your license to restore the product to full functionality.
