Issue/Introduction

We have an instance of a sqlserver probe showing multiple backup and differential backup status thresholds exceeded. However, no alarm is being raised. We have also had a DBA check the databases in question, and they are showing that backups (both full and diff) have been successful. This means either the probe is not generating alarms for threshold breaches or is misreporting values in the Status tab.

Cause

- sqlserver probe option for "Send Alarm" was not checked for the given checkpoints.

Environment

Release : 20.1

Component : UIM - SQLSERVER

sqlserver 5.42

Resolution

sqlserver probe release notes:

https://techdocs.broadcom.com/content/broadcom/techdocs/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/it-operations-management/ca-unified-infrastructure-management-probes/GA/alphabetical-probe-articles/sqlserver-sql-server-monitoring/sqlserver-sql-server-monitoring-release-notes.html

***Added the Send Alarm option which can be enabled independent of the checkpoint.***

The "Send Alarm" option is disabled (not checked) by default for any Template checkpoints that are not already checked/enabled by default in the sqlserver default Template. This includes backup_status and differential_backup_status and some other select checkpoints.

Additional Information

In sqlserver probe versions higher than 5.42, engineering plans to enable the "Send Alarm" option for all the checkpoints in the Template.
