Issue/Introduction

Constantly receiving the following message on the console:

OPERATOR ACFSDU494E SMF dump failed for file "SMF 20156001 C" - CLOSE 00D error, RC=439                                          

Is there a way to prevent continuous attempts and console messages when SMF dumps are failing.

Resolution

Fix to address the hang condition hit when the SMF data could not be sent to MAINT after it reached the MAXSPOOL upper threshold. Rather than repeatedly trying to dump SMF data to your MAINT machine the processing will now detect the RC 439 condition the first time it happens and then will send subsequent SMF data files to the ACF2VM RDR. That should allow for approximately 9999 more SMF files to be dumped should MAINT reach the MAXSPOOL limit again.

Here is the fix which you should copy to a file called TLC0045 ZAP:

To apply and test the fix go through these steps on a test system:

1) Link the ACF2VM 193 disk R/W and ACCESS it

2) ACF2FIX ACF2VM MODULE fm USING TLC0045 ZAP A (NOPRINT

3) COPY ACF2VM MODULE A = = fm (OLDD REP

4) Release the disk where you ACCESS'ed the service machine 193 disk

5) ACFSERVE RESTART

6) Temporarily update the MAINT directory entry to set a low MAXSPOOL threshold (I used 20)

7) Issue 'ACFSERVE SWITCH SMF' commands repeatedly until the MAINT RDR exceeds your MAXSPOOL limit

8) Verify that the ACF2VM SMF processing switches from MAINT to ACF2VM RDR after the first ACFSDU494E RC=439 condition and that the condition doesn't cause a loop/hang

Note that the ACF2VM 193 is normally accessed R/O by ACF2VM in order for sites to be able to LINK it R/W to apply maintenance. If the ACF2VM service machine has the 193 R/W then don't attempt the steps shown above.
