Issue/Introduction

We have an issue with an application that the user is unable to reach the Application after user Auth/AZ.
Upon checking the Webagent Agent and Trace log, we found "Communication failure between SiteMinder policy server and web agent" in Agent trace.
In Policy server smtracedefault log, We see the AZ accept and the headers are being passed and no trace of "Communication failure between SiteMinder policy server and web agent" error in PS smtrace.

Resolution

In the trace log there were three separate ~20 second delays all within CSmActiveExpr::GetActiveValue function calls for the delayed transactions resulting in:

LogMessage:ERROR:[sm-Server-02740] Failed to retreive the value.

Customer had three active expressions. Removed them and auth went through very fast.

Customer is investigating the active expressions.
