Issue/Introduction

This article describes the limitations of headless installation of Automation Automation Intelligence, and why headless install is not recommended for AAI versions 5.X and not supported for AAI 6.X.

Resolution

Headless install is not recommended for AAI versions 5.X and not supported for AAI 6.X. The reason behind that is that the Automic Automation Intelligence upgrader and many other tools that require a graphical environment (X-server). 

Automic Automation Intelligence Tools/Processes that require an X-Server:

• Automic Automation Intelligence Installer

For installations on Unix environments, make sure that an X11 Server is installed on the host machine. The AAI upgrader requires a graphical environment. An X Client can be exported to a remote machine (PC or workstation) by setting the DISPLAY environment variable on the host.

• Automic Automation Intelligence Upgrader

Confirm that an X11 Server is installed on the host machine. The AAI upgrader requires a graphical environment. An X Client can be exported to a remote machine (PC or workstation) by setting the DISPLAY environment variable on the host.

• Automic Automation Intelligence Configuration Tool

Things that will not work well without: 

• Software Installation
• Software upgrades
• Memory allocation changes
• Logger enabling for in-depth analysis of functionality and issues
• Parameter customization for system tuning and performance
• Process scheduling (Converter, Statistics Generator, DB Maintenance, etc.)
• SNMP & SMTP configuration
• Schedulers offline/online for maintenance procedures when diagnosing system issues where the application is down
